DAY 1 - Welcome to Prague

Welcome to Czech Republic! Upon arrival at the Prague Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel, where you can meet up with your Tour Director.

Depending on your time of arrival you could go for a stroll in the vicinity of your hotel. This evening, get to know your fellow travellers with a welcome dinner together.

DAY 2 - Historic Prague - a City of a Hundred Towers

After breakfast you will go on a full day sightseeing tour of Prague, also called “a city of a hundred towers”.

We start in the vicinity of the Estates Theatre in the Old Town, which hosted the premiere of W.A. Mozart´s Don Giovanni opera and pass by the National Theatre. Along the way you will have marvelous views of the panorama of Prague Castle and the Charles Bridge, Rudolfinum, which is the home-stage of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. 

We continue on foot from Prague Castle and pass the Royal Castle of Hradcany, the world's largest coherent castle complex, visit the Gothic Cathedral of St. Vitus, the Old Royal Palace, the Romanesque St. George's Basilica and the Golden Lane with the Daliborka Tower.

We have our lunch near the castle and continue our tour with stops at the Church of Our Lady Victorious and the Infant Jesus of Prague and walk through the narrowest street in Prague.

We then cross the famous Charles Bridge and return to the Lion´s Court, from which we will go across the Jewish Town, along the oldest synagogue in Europe, to the Old Town Square. One of the oldest marketplaces in Prague, see its historic Town Hall and world-famous Astronomical Clock, dating back to 1410, with its 12 apostles.

Enjoy free time on your own in old town, and return to the hotel at leisure before dinner at the hotel.

DAY 3 - Glassblowing and Sightseeing at Leisure

This morning, we will have a unique experience, where you can discover the phenomenon of glass in many of its forms. Prague is famous for its glass and you can observe a unique collection of glass sculptures and hands on a glass workshop. Try your hand at making a glass for beer, small glass, flower váse, candle stick or a paperweight.

The rest of the day is free for you to continue exploring Prague at leisure. Perhaps visit a museum or the Strahov Library, one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. Housed in the city's Clementium complex, it's not only filled with thousands of books, but gorgeous frescoes and different antique objects of historical curiosity.

Dinner and evening at leisure.

DAY 4 - Czech Beer & to the Danube

After breakfast, check out of the hotel for our journey South across the border into Austria, where we will travel to the Danube and join our river cruise 

The Czech Republic is famous for its Pilsner lager and en route, we will stop at the Pilsner Urquell Brewery for beer tasting and brewery visit, before enjoying lunch at the  brewery's restaurant.

From here, we cross make our way south across the plains to the Danube to meet our river cruise. After boarding and formalities, dine and relax away the evening and enjoy your first night on board.

DAY 5 - Sumptuous Vienna

Your first day of the river cruise brings you to one of Europe's most influential cities and a real highlight of your Danube cruise: Vienna, the capital of Austria.

With its wealth of museums, galleries, palaces and castles, plus the state opera and many theatres, the city enjoys a lively cultural scene all year-round. The Viennese are proud of their city – and rightly so!

We sail in the morning and after lunch on board, this afternoon, enjoy a panoramic city tour to give you the flavour of all Vienna has to offer. Lunch and dinner are aboard the cruise ship.

DAY 6 - Vienna at leisure

Enjoy a day at leisure in Vienna, Austria's capital city. 

Perhaps discover the Spanish Riding School, discover Schonbrunn Palace, head to the world renowned musuems or enjoy a coffee in one of the many famous coffee houses - there's somethign for all!

Return to the boat late afternoon before setting sail and enjoying dinner on board as we make our way overnight to Hungary.

DAY 7 - Esztergom to Budapest

Arriving early morning in Esztergom, we awake in what was once the capital of Hungary.

Esztergom sits right on the bank of the Danube and can be admired directly from the river. The castle tower and mighty basilica form an amazing sight, rising up from the steep bank of the Danube. This is a view you’ll definitely want to photograph during your Danube cruise. 

We continue our journey along the Danube to the current capital of Hungary, the stunning city of Budapest. The river is the best place to get an uninterrupted view of Hungary's most famous building - the Parliament, which sits alongside the mighty Danube. Discover the city's sights and history on a panoramic tour this afternoon, before dinner back on board

DAY 8 - Beautiful Budapest

Today allows time to explore Budapest at leisure - why not cross the exquisite Chain Bridge up to the Palace, see the colourful St Steven's Church or perhaps visit one of the many famous spas, such as that at the Gellert Hotel?

With lunch back on board, we set sail this afternoon back for Slovenia and Austria.

DAY 9 - Bustling Bratislava

Bratislava, home to approximately 450,000 inhabitants and located on the left bank of the Danube is the youngest capital city in Europe. Just a short sail down the Danube from Vienna, in the old town, you’ll see traces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire wherever you go.

This leisurely city of baroque and rococo, palaces and palisades, and art and coffee houses is a perfect place to wander around, marvel at impressive sights, relax and unwind before we continue the journey back to Austria.

DAY 10 - Magical Melk Abbey

Our final full day aboard the cruise brings us to some of Austria's most famous landmarks outside of Vienna. 

This morning, we make a technical stop in Krems, along the Wachau Valley, a UNESCO Heritage site. 

The boat continues on to Melk Abbey, which sits high on a cliff above the river below. The Benedictine Abbey is a sight to behold. Enjoy an excursion to see the beautiful baroque Abbey, before re-joining the ship later in the day.

DAY 11 - Disembark & Return to Prague

After an exciting and thrilling Danube cruise, after breakfast, it is time to disembark and your transfer will collect you from the dock for the journey back to Prague.

En-route to Prague, we will stop in Cesky Krumlov, a UNESCO World Heritage town, picturesquely situated above the meandering valley of the upper Vltava River in southern Bohemia.

We will visit the castle and enjoy a walking tour of Ceský Krumlov, whose historic centre boasts more than 300 historic buildings, dominated by a huge castle and the church of St. Vitus. 

Afterwards, we travel through southern Bohemia back to Prague and admire its beautiful landscape with many forests and ponds.

Upon arrival, check-in and free time until we gather for a farewell dinner to round off our European adventure.

DAY 12 - Farewell Prague

It's time to say 'Goodbye' to the Czech Republic.

You will be transferred back to the airport in time to catch your departure flights for onward travel

  • Please note, flights to/from the Czech Republic are not included in this package. The Big Journey Company would be happy to provide a quotation for your flights - please contact us for further details
  • N.B. - There are no adapted cabins aboard the river cruise and no elevators onboard the ship. Access to shore from the boat may require crossing other vessels and is therefore not suited for those with limited mobility. The cruise line must be notified at the time of booking of any passengers with mobility problems or requiring walking aides/wheelchairs.
  • Please let The Big Journey Company know prior to travelling if you have any medical needs or take any medication that we need to be made aware of to ensure that you have a safe and pleasant tour
  • Check in is after 2-3pm and check out is before 10am unless otherwise specified in the itinerary.
