ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
**Please check your own country's international travel advice as well as the airline requirements before travel.**
UK guests: Visit the UK Foreign Office for the latest entry and exit advice: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/indonesia
Visas:
• Most tourists, including UK, US, Canadian and EU passport holders, can enter Indonesia for up to 30 days with a Visa on Arrival (VOA), which can be purchased at major airports (approx. USD 35). Alternatively, you can apply for an e-Visa in advance.
• Check the official Indonesian immigration site for full and updated details.
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the necessary travel documentation prior to departure.
Passports:
Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay. One blank page is recommended. Fill out the “Emergency Contact” section before departure.
Travel Insurance:
All passengers must have valid travel insurance before traveling, including health and cancellation insurance. Ensure all pre-existing medical conditions are declared to the insurer. Provide the details of your insurance to The Big Journey Company at least 6 weeks before your departure date by emailing info@thebigjourneycompany.com. Take note of important information such as the insurer’s 24-hour emergency number and your policy number.
Medical Conditions & Medication:
Notify The Big Journey Company in advance if you have medical conditions or require specific care. Carry prescriptions and medication in original packaging, with a doctor’s letter if needed. Inform us early if you are travelling with medical equipment such as CPAP machines, especially if distilled water is required.
LUGGAGE
What to Pack and Wear:
Pack light, breathable clothing and comfortable walking shoes. Include a light rain jacket and something smart-casual for evening dining if you wish. Don’t forget sunscreen, insect repellent, swimwear, a sunhat, and your camera with extra batteries and memory cards.
Luggage Allowances:
Please check your airline’s luggage rules before travel. Domestic flights and ferries (especially to/from the Gili Islands) may have tighter restrictions.
LANGUAGE
The official language is Bahasa Indonesia. English is spoken in most tourist areas.

The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Credit cards are accepted in most tourist areas, though cash is recommended for small shops and island vendors. Always inform your bank before travelling.

WATER
Avoid drinking tap water in Indonesia. Stick to bottled or filtered water. Bottled water is readily available.
SAFETY AND SECURITY
As visitors, tourists may be more vulnerable to petty crimes like pickpocketing and scams, so we recommend staying aware and taking simple precautions.
RELIGION
Indonesia is predominantly Muslim, though Bali and the Gili Islands have large Hindu populations. Be respectful of local customs, especially during religious holidays or when visiting temples and villages.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Indonesia is incredibly photogenic—capture its landscapes, temples, and people, but always ask before photographing individuals. Don’t forget your charger and extra storage!
